ABOUT US
This project started out as a labor of love of my friend and long-time neighbor Dan Bailey. Dan was the Head Athletic Trainer at Long Beach State for over 30 years who passed away suddenly, shortly after his retirement from the University in 2007...
As Dan recalled to me, some time in the early 2000's the Athletic Department was undergoing a huge move into a new building. During this process hundreds of reels of archived film were tossed into dumpsters - they were done with it. Dan took it upon himself to retrieve as much as he could, and then stored it at his home for many years prior to his death. His plan was to make it his retirement hobby to digitize and archive as much of this hoard as possible. He didn't live to fulfill that dream.
Years later, the Bailey Family entrusted their garage full of films to me and I promised that I would do whatever I could to someday digitize and make them available to the Long Beach State athletic community. What I didn't realize though, was the significance of how expensive it would be to even begin
the process! So the films sat again for years until I was financially able to make an attempt to begin the conversion. That process finally began in May 2014 and we are on our way!
It is my pleasure to make these films available to our football and basketball alumni, fans and friends who, until now, only know of these games from the stories that are told. My only objective in charging a fee for these DVD's is to recoup some of the investment that I am making to convert these games from the 16mm celluloid reels that were simply begging to be saved and reclaimed from being lost for eternity by Dan Bailey.
I hope you enjoy our labor of love.
